High Rhulain

The title of Brian's post-Rakkety Tam book (#18 of The Redwall Series) has been revealed!

In a September interview with Berkshires Week, Brian revealed that the title of his next book is High Rhulain!
I end the interview by asking Jacques what he'll be working on next. He says he's just finished writing the 18th Redwall book. "It's called 'High Rhulain [pronounced roo-lane],' he reveals, adding, teasingly, "and I'm not going to tell you anything more about it." Like any great storyteller, Brian Jacques knows how to hook his audience and keep them in suspense.
You can read the full article here.

It should be mentioned that the article itself spells the title "High Rhulian". However, the popular site Locus Online also lists the book title, spelled "High Rhulain". Given the known pronunciation (roo-lane), "High Rhulain" seems more likely and is the spelling The Redwall Newsline shall use for now.

Redwall.org has finally revealed some information about Brian's upcoming 'Redwall' book, High Rhulain (this, as well as listings on other reliable sources, confirms the "Rhulain" spelling).

The summary reads as follows:
Young Tiria Wildlough is an ottermaid touched by the paw of destiny. Her epic adventure takes her on a journey from Redwall Abbey across the Great Western Sea, to the mysterious Green Isle. There she must fulfill an ancient prophecy and gain her inheritance.

Green Isle is home to the otterclans, but they are beset by dangers from Wildcat chieftain Riggu Fellis and his catguard slave masters. Aided by two birds and a platoon of Long Patrol hares, Tiria joins forces with the outlaw leader of the otterclans in a battle that will test all their courage and skill.

In the true tradition of Redwall comes a new saga full of feasts and fighting, riddles and quests, and a heroine youčre not likely to forget as she strives to become the chosen one‹the High Rhulain!

In a surprising turn of events, Penguin's online catalogue has posted David Wyatt's art for the UK cover of High Rhulain. While it used to be commonplace in the early days of The Newsline, this marks the first time a UK cover has hit the 'net prior to the US version since The Taggerung (back in 2001).

In addition, the catalogue had a new description (although it doesn't reveal anything new), which reads as follows:
A fantastic, brand new title in the bestselling, award-winning Redwall saga.

High Rhulain follows Tiria Wildlough, a young otter maid touched by the paw of Destiny, on an epic adventure from the safety of Redwall Abbey, across the wild Western Sea to the mysterious Green Isle.

Brian Jacques gives all Redwall and fantasy fans more of what they crave in this story of danger, courage and friendship.

Troy Howell's cover for the U.S. edition of High Rhulain has surfaced on Amazon.com (seen right). On its sister-site, Amazon.co.uk, a clearer look at David Wyatt's UK cover art has also been posted, in addition to a new description:
Young Tiria Wildlough is an otter maid touched by the paw of Destiny. Her tale is an epic adventure which takes her from Redwall Abbey, across the wild Western sea to the mysterious Green Isle. There she will fulfil an ancient prophesy and gain her inheritance. Green Isle is the home of the Otterclans but they are beset by dangers from the Wildcat Riggu Felis and his catguard slave masters. Aided by two birds and a platoon of Long Patrol hares, Tiria joins forces with the outlaw Leatho Shellhound and his Otterclan. This is a tale in the true tradition of the Redwall saga. Feasting and fighting, solving riddles from a forgotten volume, and questing in search of her title, Tiria strives to become High Rhulain!

High Rhulain will be released in the US on September 22nd, 2005 and will hit UK shelves on October 6th, 2005.
