Voyage of Slaves

Written by Brian Jacques
Illustrated by David Elliot

Blackwell's Online Bookshop (as well as Amazon.co.uk) has posted the UK cover art for Voyage of Slaves. I'm not sure who the artist behind it is, possibly David Wyatt (although it doesn't look as sleek as his previous work), but it looks like it's depicting the same scene as the US cover art.

In addition, LP Forum member LordTBT has pointed out a new summary posted by the Library of Congress:
Continuing their adventures through space and time, Ben and his faithful dog, Ned, find themselves in the Mediterranean region in 1703, befriended by a troupe of traveling entertainers and relentlessly pursued by ruthless Barbary slave traders.

The relevant piece of information is the year (although the "space and time" description is also intriguing). Constructing a chronology of the Flying Dutchman series, we find the progression something like this:
Castaways of the Flying Dutchman - Books 1 & 2 (1620)
The Angel's Command (1628)
Voyage of Slaves (1703)
Castaways of the Flying Dutchman - Book 3 (1896)

Amazon.com has posted the cover art, as well as a new teaser, for Voyage of Slaves:
Adrift in the Mediterranean Sea, Ben falls captive to a band of slave traders and their leader Al Misurata. With his faithful dog Ned at his side, Ben must plot escape as the ship of scoundrels sails up the Libyan coastline toward Italy, where a trap awaits. Ruthless enemies and hard times appear around every bend, but Ben and Ned have quick wits to rely on and, just as important, one another.

Redwall.org has now confirmed Voyage of Slaves' existence and release date and has also provided us with a brief teaser:
Adrift in the Mediterranean Sea, Ben and his loyal dog Ned‹cursed by an avenging angel to roam the earth forever‹fall into the clutches of the Slave Lord Al Misurata. Thus starts a roaring adventure, ranging from the Libyan coast to the Italian border.

Survival is a daily battle over land and sea, as Ben and Ned gain good friends and encounter ruthless enemies in their quest for freedom. At times possessing nothing other than their wits, they must rely on one another to defeat the forces of evil.

Brian Jacques, master storyteller and author of the New York Times best-selling Redwall epic, turns yet another page in the log of the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman‹a rousing yarn full of high-seas adventure!

Amazon.com has revealed the title to Brian's third entry in the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series: Voyage of Slaves!

Unfortunately, no plot details were divulged.

Amazon.co.uk has added a curious listing to their catalogue: a book by Brian Jacques entitled "Castaways Book 3".

Obviously, this is not the final title. However, it does tell us that we can expect to see another entry into the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman series soon, assuming this listing is correct.

There's some confusion surrounding the exact release dates for Voyage of Slaves-- Amazon has moved up the previously announced U.S. street date from September 21st, 2006 to September 14th, 2006 (ISBN 0399245499), while a May 15th update on Redwall.org announced that the U.K. edition would be moved up from October 5th, 2006 to September 13th, 2006 (ISBN 0670913243). Oddly, Redwall.org made no mention of a U.S. release date. We'll try to clear things up.

Stay tuned to the Newsline for future developments.
