Eulalia!
Art by David Wyatt

U.K. cover artist, David Wyatt, was kind enough to send the Newsline the full art for the U.K. cover, with no text spoiling this beautiful piece of work. Our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Wyatt for sending the artwork and granting us permission to post it!

(see the final cover, text and all, to the right.)

Amazon.com has posted the final cover art for Eulalia!, drawn by Troy Howell. Curiously, the coloration of the artwork has been altered from what was previously seen on the advance reading copy of the book. The pinkish hue of the sky has been replaced with a more blue and yellow one, and the faded green/brown of Gorath's tunic has been replaced with a far more vibrant green. Both versions can be seen to the right.

An advance reading copy of Eulalia! was recently put up on eBay, and with it a scan of the U.S. cover art by Troy Howell (seen right). Depicted is Gorath, the young badger destined to become Badger Lord of Salamandastron.

Redwall fans should take note-- in promotion of the upcoming release, Philomel is offering bookstores packs of Eulalia! Trading Cards , which will feature the U.S. cover art. How bookstores distribute these cards will be up to them-- in the past, some stores incorporated the cards into their displays, while others kept them behind the check-out counter. The bookstores receive the cards in packs of 10, so supplies will be limited-- if you aren't there early on release day, the odds are you won't get a card.

Amazon.com has posted the following editorial description for Eulalia!, naming the previously mentioned haremaid:
Lord Asheye of Salamandastron has a prophecy: A new Badger Lord must take his place and reign over the legendary badger fortress. But who is this young warrior who shuns both armor and sword? And how is he to be found? Mad Maudie, a feisty haremaid of the Long Patrol, is just the one to track him down. Meanwhile, the unsuspecting future Badger Lord has been captured by a scurrilous group of Sea Raiders led by the infamous fox, Vizka Longtooth, who intends on conquering Redwall Abbey. It is up to our young hero to defend Redwall so that he may fulfill his destiny as leader of Salamandastron.

Various online U.K. catalogues have posted the following summary for Eulalia!, almost word-for-word the one that showed up in U.S. listings, but it has a few alterations.
Lord Asheye of Salamandastron, now old and blind, has a prophecy: a new Badger Lord must take his place and reign over the legendary badger fortress. But who is this young warrior who 'shuns both armour and sword'? And how is he to be found? Mad Maudie, a feisty haremaid of the Long Patrol, is just the one to do the job. Meanwhile, the unsuspecting future Badger Lord has been captured by an unscrupulous group of Sea Raiders led by the infamous fox, Vizka Longtooth, intent on conquering Redwall Abbey. It is up to our young badger hero to defend Redwall so that he may fulfill his destiny as leader of Salamandastron.
The biggest change is that it now tells us that Lord Asheye is blind. The rest of the changes are really inconsequential-- Mad Maudie is now the "one to do the job" rather than "the one to track him down". The Sea Raiders are now "an unscrupulous group" rather than "a scurrilous group". And "our young hero" becomes "our young badger hero".
Penguin has released the following tease for Eulalia!:
Lord Asheye of Salamandastron has a prophecy: A new Badger Lord must take his place and reign over the legendary badger fortress. But the unsuspecting future Badger Lord has been captured by a[n] unscrupulous group of Sea Raiders led by the infamous fox, Vizka Longtooth, intent on conquering Redwall Abbey. It is up to our young hero to defend Redwall so that he may fulfill his destiny as leader of Salamandastron.

The following summary was posted on the Library of Congress' website:
On his way to invade Redwall Abbey, vicious and tyrannical Captain Vizka Longtooth captures Gorath, the brave young badger whose predicted destiny is to become the next Badger Lord.

The Redwall Wiki has obtained an Advance Reading Copy of Eulalia! and has posted the text that will grace the book's jacket:
Across the seas comes Vizka Longtooth, with a scurrilous crew of Sea Raiders bound for plunder and conquest. Aboard, a young badger lies captive. The aged Badger Lord of Salamandastron sends forth a haremaid, questing for his successor. A young thief is exiled from Redwall. A Brownrat Chieftan, with his savage horde, ravages Mossflower Country. The fate of all these creatures, both good and evil, is caught up in this saga of war and destiny.

Over the cold Northern Isles, across the heaving seas, sweeping through forests and plains, from the legendary badger mountain to the ancient stones of Redwall Abbey, the warcry thunders out. . . Eulaliiiiiiaaaaa!

Eulalia! hit bookshelves on October 4th, 2007.
