Last month, a new children’s anthology entitled Midnight Feast was released by HarperCollins in the U.K. (hat tip The Redwall Wiki). Produced by the charity organizations War Child and No Strings, the anthology includes an all-new short story by Brian Jacques entitled A Midnight Feast.

Amazon.co.uk provides the following editorial description for the book:

Brand new stories from your fave bestselling authors — and all for a great cause! The blockbusting, bumper anthology for children is back, in the name of both entertainment and charity. Midnight Feast is packed full of exclusive stories and exciting illustrations — and best of all, GBP1 for every copy sold goes straight to War Child and No Strings.

Featuring an introduction by Fearne Cotton, Midnight Feast includes stories and artwork by the best authors and illustrators in the business. Including: Darren Shan, Anthony Horowitz, Meg Cabot, Eoin Colfer, Garth Nix, Joe Craig, Kath Langrish, Brian Jacques, Oliver Jeffers, Jonathan Stroud, Maeve Friel, Annie Dalton, Margaret Mahy, Helen Dunmore, Chris d’Lacey, Jamie Oliver, Tony Hart and Eleanor Updale!

This isn’t the first time time Brian has contributed a story to a War Child anthology, though– in 2003, he wrote the story Sergeant Mugworth & Algy Buttons for their Kids’ Night In anthology (original coverage of which can be found here, here and here). Clearly he still supports the good work they do.

War Child is an organization that goes into war zones and helps children who are suffering as a result of the conflicts, while No Strings uses puppets/puppetshows “to teach life-saving messages to children in developing countries”. Proceeds from the new anthology help support both groups.

Midnight Feast is 304 pages and is available for purchase from Amazon.co.uk for the discounted price of £5.24 (from £6.99). (ISBN-10: 0007229283, ISBN-13: 978-0007229284.)

Stay tuned to the Newsline for a review of the anthology.
