The Redwall Wiki, by way of David Lindsay (Redwall.org’s webmaster), has put up the full track listing for the Songs from Redwall CD. (Full scans of the back cover can be seen at their site.)

In addition to Brian Jacques, credited on the back is Billy Maher, longtime colleague of Jacques at BBC Radio Merseyside and also the man responsible for the music on the unabridged Redwall audio books (Radio Plays) since 1997. In addition to music, Maher lends his voice to the productions, having played the roles of Log-a-Log and King Bull Sparra in Redwall, Pallum and various vermin in Martin the Warrior, as well as many others in subsequent productions. His bio can be read at BBC Radio Merseyside, where Maher hosts his own show every Saturday and Sunday evening.

The CD will have 47 songs in all (which isn’t all that surprising given how short most of the them are), drawn from the unabridged audio book productions. The track list is as follows:

1. Introduction (from Mariel of Redwall)
2. Rappity Tap (from Loamhedge)
3. Song of the River (from Salamandastron)

Only two of the unabridged books seem to have been ignored: Redwall and Mossflower. Redwall, of course, didn’t have many songs and was also their first production, so Maher’s music merely bumpered the chapters. As for Mossflower, I would have expected to see a few of Gonff’s ditties on here, but they appear to have been left out completely (possibly because they lacked musical accompaniment). Also missing: The Ballad of Tammo and The Long Patrol’s Anthem.

Songs from Redwall should be available from the Redwall La Dita Bookshop at Redwall.org later this week.

About Martin the Warrior

Martin has been active in Redwall fandom for many years, founding The Long Patrol in 1996, The Redwall Newsline in 1997, and RWTV: Redwall on TV in 2001. He will be covering Redwall news as long as there is Redwall news to cover.
