The Liverpool Echo is currently producing a “Spirit of Liverpool” campaign, which includes the naming of the “100 Greatest Merseysiders”. As part of that campaign, they’ve commissioned portraits of the ten finalists, to be unveiled at the World Museum Liverpool on May 24th. Counted among the honorees? Brian Jacques.
icLiverpool reports that artist Micheline Robinson, a French Canadian who currently resides in Merseyside, has been selected to paint a portrait of Brian Jacques for the exhibit.
The other nine finalists are: comic Ken Dodd, Meccano inventor Frank Hornby, Everton FC “legendary goal-scorer” Dixie Dean, former Prime Minister William Gladstone, human rights campaigner James Mawdesley, Liverpool city guide Steve Binns, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine director Janet Hemingway, Jospice International founder Father Francis O’Leary, and a little known musical group called The Beatles.
Echo readers will be making the final vote to determine the #1 Greatest Merseysider this coming week. We’ll be sure to let you know how Brian fares against the “Fab Four”.
