Continuing with our Newsline catch-up, we turn to another upcoming Redwall product: Redwall: 20th Anniversary Edition.
The year 2007 marks Redwall’s 20th Anniversary in the U.S. and, to celebrate, Philomel will be releasing a 20th Anniversary Edition Redwall!
While specific details on the anniversary content of the book have not yet been divulged, it seems a safe bet to assume we’ll be treated to new full page illustration akin to Troy Howell’s color plates in the 10th Anniversary Edition or David Elliot’s black and white illustrations in the Mossflower Collector’s Edition. No word on if either of them will be the illustrator (or even if Gary Chalk’s original illustrations will be included– they were not in the 10th Anniversary Edition).
Troy Howell has illustrated an entirely new cover for the release– his third cover for Redwall alone– that looks to be more in keeping with the style of recent books. On it we find Matthias in the same pose he’s been in on all of Howell’s Redwall covers, only this time seen from a new perspective. Click on the above thumbnail to view a larger version of the cover, then check the image to the left to compare it with his past illustrations of Matthias.
I’m a little disappointed to see Troy use the same character and pose for the third time– I would have much rather seen a depiction of Matthias’ fight with Cluny– but it’s hard to deny the simple elegance of the cover.
The cover appears to be a standard dust jacket affair, which means Redwall still won’t receive the leatherette treatment that Mossflower did with its Collector’s Edition.
Redwall: 20th Anniversary Edition will hit US shelves on October 18th, 2007. There’s been no word on a UK release, which follows since their 20th anniversary was last year.
Stay tuned to the Newsline for more details.
