Yep, it’s really late. There are a few Newsline updates to be made, though, so let’s go.
First, I apologize to Mackinsie for sitting on this piece of news for as long as I did. She let me know about the fourth Redwall video, Captain Snow, last week. I just never had the time to update it (and I also didn’t think it was that pressing, as it’s once again UK only. ) Anyway, the fourth video contains episodes 7, 8, and 9. It will be released on June 4th, for all of you with PAL VCRs.
Speaking of the TV series, I’ve been corroborating sources and I now feel confident in announcing that it looks like PBS may very well have picked up Season Two (eps14-26) of Redwall (better known among the fans as the “Mattimeo” episodes). Those of you who had the tenth or eleventh episode airing last weekend should be watching Mattimeo very shortly. I’ve been told it has a much better adaptation, too.
Also, Canadians should be on the lookout for “Martin the Warrior” this Fall. It’s not far off– Jack Procher and Daniel Fernandez have begun their work on it, as per the timetable Jack speculated on in the interview. November is the most likely airdate, but keep in mind that’s subject to change.
Also, special thanks to Florian for e-mailing me some interesting information. Amazon.com has listed Peter Standley (whom you’ll remember I’ve reported as being the illustrator for the Tribes companions) as the illustrator of The Taggerung. What does this mean? Well, until I see a second source listing Peter, I wouldn’t put too much stock into it. Amazon.com is right only half of the time. We’ll have to watch this. Personally, I hope it’s false because Fangorn’s illustrations in the last three books have been outstanding.
This is a lengthy update, isn’t it? Well, it’s not over yet.
In a recent interview, BJ talked about The Angel’s Command and about his writing schedule.
“I was always two or three years ahead on the Redwall.” [allowing him to write Castaways of the Flying Dutchman] “At the moment I am two Redwalls ahead. So I’m having another go at another Flying Dutchman tale. This one has a lot more sea in it; approximately half the book is spent at sea. I love writing about the sea.”
What does this tell us? Well, for starters, that TAC doesn’t focus solely on Ben and Ned’s journey up South America, as BJ hinted at in the webcast. It has to leave enough room for “half the book” to be set on the high seas. Sounds fun, doesn’t it?
Additionally, we can also extract some Redwall information from that quote. BJ currently has two books waiting to be published– that would be The Taggerung and Triss. That means that both are complete and in the hands of the publisher. We can also gather from the quote that BJ is at least 80%-90% done with TAC. What does that tell us? He should be sitting down to start writing Loamhedge (unofficial title) any day now!
Time to bring this long update to a close. The RWTV Review for Episode #5 will be up Tuesday. Unless there’s breaking news, I’ll see you then.
